President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is returning from the US with the Ukrainian delegation. According to reports on his future plans, A meeting to discuss the outcome of the negotiations is due to take place on 25 September, whilst the Ukrainian negotiating team is planning a telephone conversation with the US side regarding Russia’s response to the proposals for de-escalation.
What is planned following Zelenskyy’s return
The meeting is expected to review the outcomes of the meetings held in the United States. A separate discussion is also expected between the Ukrainian negotiating team and US representatives. The topic of this discussion is expected to be the Russian side’s response to the latest proposals regarding de-escalation measures.
Previously. Zelensky confirmed to journalists in New York that following his meeting with Donald Trump Talks took place between the two presidents’ teams. They discussed question, which had previously been breached by the leaders of Ukraine and the US.
Dmitriev has travelled to the US for talks
Representative Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev set off for the US for meetings with Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and other representatives of the US administration.
Sources speaking to the agency reported that the visit had been agreed with Putin, and that the talks are due to take place in New York during the UN General Assembly session. The topics mentioned include the war against Ukraine, energy and economic relations between Russia and the US.
At the same time, this Reuters report does not confirm that Dmitriev has already conveyed Moscow’s final response to the US regarding the proposals for de-escalation.
The details of the proposals have not yet been made public
Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine and the US had agreed not to disclose specific details of the discussions until they had received a response from the Russian side. According to him, the American team is taking several weeks to liaise with Russia.
The President also noted that he had not seen a finalised written document regarding the end of the war. He cautioned against premature expectations in the face of further Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy has already publicly stated that Ukraine is ready for a reciprocal an end to attacks on the energy sector and exports, provided Moscow is willing to do so. Therefore, at present, the focus is on discussing possible steps and awaiting a response, rather than on an agreement having been reached to cease the attacks.
