A Russian drone struck the «Dobrobut» medical centre in central Kyiv. A major fire broke out following the strike, and thick black smoke rose over the neighbourhood. Information regarding possible casualties and people inside the building is currently being verified.
After the strike, the building was engulfed in flames
The strike took place during the day on 28 September. Following the strike, a large plume of smoke rose in the area of the medical centre, which was visible from various parts of central Kyiv.
Footage from the scene of the attack shows intense flames at the top of the damaged building and thick black smoke. Emergency services are heading to the scene. Details regarding the extent of the damage, possible casualties and the number of people who may have been inside are still being confirmed.
Kyiv is under attack from jet-powered drones
Throughout 28 September, Russia has continued a series of air strikes on the capital. Air raid alerts have been issued in the city on several occasions due to the threat of attack drones, particularly jet-powered ones.
Reports of the use of jet-powered UAVs on that day have been confirmed by Ukrainian sources. However, at the time of writing, the type of drone that directly struck the «Dobrobut» medical centre had not been officially specified.
Russia has been carrying out strikes on the capital throughout the day
This is not the first attack on Kyiv in the last 24 hours. Drone strikes and crashes have been reported in several areas of the city.
There had previously been reports of attacks on office and non-residential buildings, petrol stations and other urban infrastructure facilities. In the centre of the capital, a Russian jet drone also struck a building National Academy of Sciences Ukraine.
The air raid threat remains in place throughout the day. Residents of the capital are urged to respond to air raid sirens and remain in shelters until the all-clear is given.
