A fire broke out in the building following the impact
News of the strike emerged on the afternoon of 28 September. A Russian drone attacked a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the centre of the capital. Following the strike, thick smoke began to billow and a fire broke out. Footage from the scene shows thick black smoke rising above the building.
According to preliminary reports, there were people inside at the time of the attack. However, no official figures have yet been released regarding the number of people inside the buildings, details of any possible casualties or the extent of the damage.

Kyiv has been under drone attack for the past 24 hours
This is not the first strike in the capital on 28 September. Since last night, Russian drones various areas of Kyiv were attacked. The city authorities reported that an office building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, a café near a petrol station in the Holosiivskyi district and a petrol station in Obolon had been hit. Debris falling and fires were also reported.
The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the country’s largest state-run scientific organisation. Its structure comprises dozens of institutes and other scientific institutions. Since the start of the full-scale war, Russian strikes have already damaged hundreds of facilities belonging to the Academy.
