A 75-year-old man in the Transcarpathian region lost his country house after a fire caused by burning dry grass. The incident occurred near Chop in Uzhhorod district when an uncontrolled fire spread to the building due to the wind.

Fire in Transcarpathia: details of the incident

Yesterday afternoon, a large-scale fire broke out near the town of Chop in the Uzhhorod region. Neighbours working on their farm heard slate cracking and noticed that a country house was on fire. They immediately called the rescuers, who fought the fire for over two hours.

According to the SES, The source of the fire was the burning of dry grass on the site. Due to the wind, the flames spread quickly, and the uncontrolled fire engulfed the building, which belonged to the 75-year-old owner. As a result, the man completely lost his dacha.

Such incidents are becoming more frequent in the spring and summer, when people burn vegetation on a massive scale.

The scale of eco-fires in Ukraine

Over the past 24 hours, 128 fires were recorded in Ukraine's ecosystems. The total area covered by the fire reached almost 47,000 hectares. This scale is damaging not only private property but also the regional ecology.

Firefighters emphasise that burning dry grass is one of the main causes of spring and summer fires. Wind and lack of fire control lead to the rapid spread of flames, which poses a threat not only to nature but also to human life and health.

Responsibility for burning dead wood

Ukrainian legislation provides for administrative liability for burning dry grass. Such actions are subject to a fine starting at UAH 3,060. However, in addition to financial penalties, violators risk losing their property or even endangering their own lives.

Rescuers are constantly urging citizens to follow fire safety rules and not to resort to burning plant residues. This practice not only harms the environment but also causes large-scale fires that are difficult to control.

Why it matters

Burning dry grass is not only an administrative offence, but also a serious threat to ecosystems, private property and human life. The example in Zakarpattia demonstrates that one reckless action can lead to a complete loss of housing, even if the fire started outdoors.

The massive eco-fires that occur every year cause irreparable damage to the country's environment and economy. Preventing such incidents is a shared responsibility of citizens, rescuers and local authorities.

Explaining the consequences and responsibilities helps to raise public awareness and reduce the number of similar cases in the future.
