Following a spell of rain and thunderstorms, Ukraine is set to be hit by another spell of extremely high temperatures. Meteorologist Ihor Kibalchych forecasts a sharp rise in temperatures from 17 July, bringing with it abnormally high temperatures.
- Until 15 July, Ukraine will be affected by rain and thunderstorms.
- A period of intense heat will begin on 17 July.
- Temperatures will rise to between +28 and +33 °C across the country.
- Temperatures of up to +34…+36 °C are expected in the south and the Donbas.
- On 19–20 July, thunderstorms are likely only in some western regions.
A change in the weather: from downpours to a heatwave
This week in Ukraine has been characterised by active atmospheric fronts, which have brought heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds. This weather pattern is set to continue until 15 July. The situation is set to change dramatically shortly.
Temperature records for the second half of July
From 17 July, residents of most regions of Ukraine will experience a sharp rise in temperatures. Average temperatures will range between +28 and +33 °C. The highest temperatures are expected in the south and in the Donbas, where thermometers may reach +34…+36 °C. Such heatwave poses further challenges for the agricultural and energy sectors.
Regional variations in precipitation
Despite the general warming trend, localised thunderstorms are possible in some regions of Ukraine. In particular, rain is forecast for 19–20 July in the west, north-west and south-west of the country. However, stable weather conditions with no significant rainfall will prevail across most of the country, which will contribute to a further warming of the air masses.
This weather situation calls for careful attention to temperature conditions, particularly during the day when solar radiation is at its strongest.
