Belarus is not building up troops near the Ukrainian border. This was stated by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko.

Current situation at the border

According to the SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko, The Belarusian side does not move military equipment or units towards the Ukrainian border. Since 2022, Belarusian troops have been deployed in certain areas, but their number has not increased.

Belarus explains the presence of troops as a way of strengthening its own security in anticipation of Ukraine's actions. At the same time, Ukraine has not created and does not plan to create a threat to Belarus.

Rotation of military units

The Belarusian army units stationed near the border periodically rotate and move within their positions. However, as Demchenko notes, there is no build-up of even these forces.

The situation remains stable, and rotations are part of the normal activities of the Belarusian military.

Possible provocations and Ukraine's response

At the same time, the SBGS spokesperson does not rule out the possibility of provocations by Belarus. Such actions could be aimed at drawing Ukrainian forces away from more important frontline areas.

Ukrainian intelligence, the Ministry of Defence and border guards are closely monitoring developments on the Belarusian section of the border.

Fortification works on the border

Fortification works continue along all sections of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Positions are being strengthened in Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.

Ukraine continues to take measures to improve its defence capabilities regardless of changes in the location of Belarusian troops.
