On the afternoon of 5 October, Russian forces attacked a multi-storey residential block in Berdychiv, in the Zhytomyr region, using a strike drone. The attack damaged flats on the fourth to ninth floors, and a fire broke out in one of them. According to updated figures from the State Emergency Service, one person was injured, whilst nine other residents sought psychological support.

A drone struck a high-rise residential block
The head of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration reported the attack earlier today Vitaliy Bunechko. According to him, a Russian attack drone struck a multi-storey building in Berdychiv. Flats on six floors — from the fourth to the ninth — sustained the most damage. A fire broke out in one of the flats after it was hit.
The following were called in to deal with the aftermath 65 rescue workers and 17 vehicles. The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading further through the building.
One person has been injured; psychologists have helped nine people
As a result of the Russian shelling one person was injured. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service of Zhytomyr Oblast were also on site — nine people sought their help. Rescue workers continued to work inside the damaged building, checking the flats and structural elements following the fire.
The Berdychiv city authorities also reported that emergency and specialist services are working directly in the area where the strike occurred, and that owners of damaged property can receive advice on claiming compensation.
Another fire has broken out in the region
The aftermath of the Russian attack was not limited to Berdychiv. According to the State Emergency Service, dry grass caught fire in another district of the Zhytomyr region as a result of the strike. Rescue workers extinguished this fire as well.
At present, the main emergency and rescue operations at the sites of the strikes have been completed.
