In Peru, a candidate with the unusual name of Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores has emerged as the provisional winner of the mayoral election in the small municipality of Queropálca in the department of Huánuco. The politician, who stood as a candidate for the Ahora Nación party, received 229 votes — 34.54% of all valid ballots. According to Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), 100% of the voting protocols have been counted.

Hitler and Mussolini received the most votes in the Peruvian elections

An unusual result was recorded during the local elections in the municipality of Keropalca, situated in the province of Lauricocha in the department of Huánuco. According to the Peruvian National Office of Electoral Processes, the candidate Hitler, Mussolini, Simeon Flores He topped the final tally once all three polling station reports had been processed. He received 229 votes.

The contest was quite close. Gaspar Benilde Osorio Sambrano, representing the Renovación Popular Perú party, received 204 votes, whilst Itala Yovana Santillán Vara of the Partido País Para Todos received 187. The margin between first and second place was just 25 votes.

In total, 707 ballot papers were cast in the election, of which 663 were deemed valid. A further 30 were blank, and 14 were invalid. Peruvian journalists are calling Simeón Flores the provisional winner of the election.

The count of all ballot papers confirms that the Ahora Nación candidate has won by the number of votes. However, the final legal formalisation of the election results is a separate procedure.

Who are Hitler, Mussolini, Simeon and Flores?

Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores — a 45-year-old Peruvian politician, born on 6 August 1981 in Queropálca. His full name is recorded in the official register of Peru’s National Electoral Board (JNE). It is therefore not a fictitious pseudonym used for the election campaign.

According to his submitted biography, he served as the head of the private company Grupo de Inversiones Simeon SAC from 2023 to 2026. In 2025, the politician left the Fuerza Popular party and stood as a candidate for Ahora Nación in the current local elections.

Why did the Peruvian politician’s name attract attention?

The candidate’s name is the same as Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Nazi Germany, and the surname Benito Mussolini, the leader of Fascist Italy. Both dictators were responsible for mass repression, persecution and war crimes in 20th-century Europe.

It was precisely this unusual combination of names that sparked widespread interest in the elections in a small Peruvian municipality. At the same time, a person’s name does not in itself indicate their political convictions. There is no reliable evidence that Simeón Flores supports Nazi or fascist ideology.
